Soft and Buttery!

Twisted garlic breadsticks are made with an easy enriched dough and brushed with garlic butter right after baking.

This recipe uses two kinds of garlic for a well-rounded garlicky flavor without being overpowering!

Gather red pepper flakes (optional), melted butter,

granulated sugar, garlic cloves, warm water,

salt, salted butter, garlic powder, all-purpose flour, and yeast.

Knead yeast, sugar, all-purpose flour, garlic powder, and salt together until soft and stretchy.

This will take 10-15 minutes in a stand mixer or 15-20 minutes by hand.

Once the dough is no longer sticky, pull off a piece to test for gluten development.

Once it stretches like this, you've developed enough gluten!

Proof the dough in a covered bowl for 45-60 minutes until about doubled in size.

Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces.

A kitchen scale and bench scraper make this easy, but they're not necessary!

Cover all but two of the dough pieces with a kitchen towel.

Roll the two pieces into logs about 8-10" long (20-25 cm).

Pinch the two ends together, then quickly...

Lift the dough by the pinch point and twist one log around the other.

Lay the twisted breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and proof for about 20 minutes until puffy.

Then bake for about 17 minutes at 375°/190°C until lightly golden brown.

Meanwhile, melt butter in a small saucepan and sauté the garlic and red pepper flakes until fragrant.

Brush over the breadsticks while warm, then enjoy!
