The classic ginger cocktail gets an upgrade with pomegranate juice! This pomegranate Moscow mule combines pomegranate juice with lime juice and ginger beer for a festive drink with a kick from ginger beer. I recommend using a really strong ginger beer for the best flavor (and the spiciest kick), but you can also make a milder version with ginger ale.
Instead of vodka, you can easily make this an Irish mule by using whiskey or a Kentucky mule by using bourbon. All three go great with the pomegranate juice! For a cozy night in, I’d snuggle up on the couch with a pomegranate cardamom macaron in one hand and this pomegranate mule in the other. If you’d prefer a non-alcoholic version, try my pomegranate mocktail with ginger ale!

Ingredients for Pomegranate Moscow Mule
Pomegranate and ginger (really, all warm spices) pair beautifully together, which makes this pomegranate cocktail a stand-out. I recommend using ginger beer, as it has a much stronger ginger kick than ginger ale. See each bullet point for substitutions and recommendations.
- Vodka. I use regular vodka, but you can make an Irish mule with whiskey or a Kentucky mule with bourbon. All three pair nicely with the ginger beer and pomegranate!
- Pomegranate juice. I tend to use bottled pomegranate juice for ease (and because I go through so much of it)! Make sure it’s 100% pomegranate juice for the best flavor.
- Lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime juice will give you the best flavor, but bottled lime juice will work in a pinch.
- Ginger beer. Use a ginger beer—not ginger ale—for the strongest ginger flavor. I used Fevertree here, but this drink also tastes great with Bundaberg.
- For garnish, pomegranate arils and a lime wedge. You can also add a sprig of mint if you have some on hand!

Quick Tips for Prepping Pomegranate Mules
A Moscow mule is a classic for a reason. They’re super simple to make with just a couple of ingredients, and you don’t even have to use a shaker. The copper mug is traditional, but you can absolutely use an old fashioned glass to serve these.
Here are a few tips to help you make this pomegranate mule recipe your own:
- For the spiciest mule, I recommend using ginger beer. Ginger ale is pretty mild as a mixer, and strong ginger pairs wonderfully with the pomegranate. For a super strong ginger flavor, I recommend Fevertree’s ginger beer. For a milder (but still strong) ginger kick, you can use Bundaberg ginger beer.
- Instead of vodka, use whiskey for a pomegranate Irish mule or bourbon for a pomegranate Kentucky mule.
- Add a dash of ground cardamom for an extra bit of warm spice.
- Top with a sprig of mint (because I totally forgot to when taking these pictures).

Dish Cleanup: Piece of Cake
I rate my recipe cleanups on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 is only a handful of dishes, and 5 is everything including the kitchen sink.
This pomegranate mule cocktail recipe has a cleanup rating of a 1. You’ll need a jigger, a knife, a stirring spoon, and a juicer of some kind, along with whatever glass you’ll be drinking it out of. A small cutting board is helpful if you’re cutting a lot of limes!
