There’s no cocktail quite as refreshing as a mojito, and this pomegranate mojito is no exception. You wouldn’t normally think to combine pomegranate and mint (I admit, I was dubious), but the mint is subtle and works really nicely with the tartness of the pomegranate juice. The lime juice and white rum tie everything together for a fruity twist on the mojito.

This mojito has more fruit juice than typical to make sure the pomegranate really shines, but you’re welcome to play around with the ratios. And while I love this mojito as is, substituting ginger ale for the club soda turns this into something close to a pomegranate Moscow mule—very delicious and highly recommended! You could also use gold rum for a little added warmth.

Ingredients for Pomegranate Mojito

Mojitos are Cuban cocktails with mint, lime, and white rum. To add a fruity pomegranate flavor, I add a few ounces of pomegranate juice. Please read the bullet points below for recommendations and possible substitutions.

  • Mint leaves. Necessary for brightness, fresh mint leaves give the mojito that classic, refreshing feel. Save a few for the garnish (I forgot to!).
  • White rum. White rum is traditional for mojitos, but you can use gold spiced rum or even dark rum. All three go well with pomegranate.
  • Pomegranate juice. I tend to use bottled pomegranate juice for ease (and because I go through so much of it)! Make sure it’s 100% pomegranate juice for the best flavor.
  • Simple syrup. A basic syrup adds a little sweetness to this drink. It doesn’t need much, as the pomegranate juice adds a fair amount of sugar!
  • Lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime juice has the best flavor, but bottled will do in a pinch.
  • Club soda. This waters down the drink while giving it some bubbles. Sparkling water or even ginger ale will work, too!
  • For garnish: Pomegranate arils and lime wheels. I always like to add a handful of pomegranate arils so it’s immediately obvious what the flavor is.

Quick Tips for Prepping Pomegranate Mojitos

This fruity pomegranate cocktail is a little fussier than a classic mixed drink, but I love them anyway. I recommend muddling your mint leaves with the alcohol (not the simple syrup) to prevent the mint from oxidizing too quickly.

Here are a few tips to make this pomegranate mojito your own:

  • For a ginger addition, substitute ginger ale for the club soda.
  • Use a flavored syrup, like vanilla syrup, to add a warmer note to this fruity mojito.
  • Use a gold spiced rum instead of white rum to add a little warmth. It’ll pair nicely with the pomegranate!
