The only way to improve upon a cosmopolitan is by making it a cosmopomitan! This pomegranate cosmopolitan is made with a generous pour of pomegranate juice, vodka, lime juice, and a touch of triple sec to round out all the flavors. It’s fruity, festive, and one of my favorite winter cocktails.
It’s traditional to use citrus vodka with cosmopolitans, but I think vanilla vodka is a better pair with the pomegranate. You’re also welcome to use plain vodka! If you want to take this drink up a notch, you can add a scoop of pomegranate sorbet to make this a sort of pomegranate cosmopolitan slushy.

Ingredients for Pomegranate Cosmopolitan
A cosmopolitan cocktail is traditionally a mix of vodka, cranberry juice, triple sec, and lime juice. This pomegranate version substitutes a little more pomegranate juice for a wintery twist.
- Pomegranate juice. I tend to use bottled pomegranate juice for ease (and because I go through so much of it)! Make sure it’s 100% pomegranate juice for the best flavor.
- Vanilla vodka. Citrus vodka is traditional for cosmopolitans, but I love the flavor of vanilla and pomegranate together. It’s much creamier and feels more luxurious, somehow. You can also use plain vodka if you prefer.
- Lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime juice has the best flavor, but bottled will do in a pinch.
- Triple sec. This orange liqueur adds a bit of sweetness. Too much can start to muddy the flavors, but a small amount is perfect for balance.
- For garnish, a lime twist. To make a lime zest, use a channel knife to peel a long strip of zest from a lime. Wrap it around a straw or chopstick for a few minutes while you prepare the drink, then set it on the rim of your glass.

Quick Tips for Prepping Pomegranate Cosmos
Cosmopolitans are one of my favorite drinks. They’re simple to make with a short ingredient list, and they can only be improved upon by adding juice from the best fruit of all time: Pomegranate!
Here are a few variations to help you make this cosmopomitan your own:
- Use plain vodka instead of vanilla vodka. (Citrus vodka is traditional, but I think there’s enough orange with the triple sec. Too much, and it starts to muddy the bright pomegranate notes.)
- Use a mix of cranberry and pomegranate juice.
- Pour over a scoop of pomegranate sorbet for a boozy frozen pomegranate slush.

Dish Cleanup: Piece of Cake
I rate my recipe cleanups on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 is only a handful of dishes, and 5 is everything including the kitchen sink.
This pomegranate cosmopolitan cocktail recipe has a cleanup rating of a 1. You’ll need a cocktail shaker, a jigger, a knife, and a juicer of some kind, along with whatever glass you’ll serve the cocktail in. A small cutting board is helpful if you’ll be cutting limes to make a few drinks. You may also want a channel knife and a chopstick or straw to wrap a strip of lime zest around for the garnish.
